Janet's Jump

Should I or shouldn't I?No going back now!
Jeronimo!Which way is up?
The only way is down...Down, down, down, down, down ...
Never again! Can we do it again, after all?

May 26th 2010 was a big day for ‘Community Matters’ presenter Janet Latham as she jumped from a plane for charity. The good news for Janet was that it wasn't any old parachute jump - it was with the world renowned ‘Red Devils’ - the official parachute display team of both the Parachute Regiment (The Paras) and the British Army.

The opportunity for Janet to undertake this daring challenge came about when fellow presenter Geneen Crossley interviewed the team last summer. Thanks to Geneen’s excellent relationship with the ‘Red Devils’ they offered Hope FM the extremely rare chance of a free jump with the team.

Janet didn't do the jump for fun! She jumped to raise funds for two worthy causes, Hope FM and ‘The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation’. Set up to honour the life of Lt John ‘JT’ Thornton RM, from Ferndown, who was tragically killed in southern Afghanistan on 30th March 2008, the foundation aims to support local young people from Ferndown Upper School, the Dorset & Wilts Wing of the Air Training Corps, the Air Training Corps Junior Leaders Course, the Girl Guides, the Scouts, the Dorset Music Service, the Dorset Fire and Rescue Service Cadets and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.
